Toolbar
Save As Button
- Tool tip text for "Save" button in the main toolbar changed from "Save grid" to "Save As" because it performs exactly the same functions as the "Save As..." option from the "File"
menu.
Grid Button
- In "3D View" in the "Grid Options" window changed default window size for rendered image of 3D View so that it would fit on a typical laptop-sized screen.
Layers Button
- For the "Layers" window accessed via the "Import Layers" button the "Question mark" button now links to the correct help page.

***** IMPORTANT TO NOTE *****
- When using Bathymetry, Gravity and Magnetic Profiles MAKE SURE TO CLOSE THIS IF YOU ARE GOING TO LOAD MORE THAN 2 OR THREE THINGS FROM THE DATABASE MENU! The new control files are big, and though they have been reduced from their original size loading more than 2 or three things will cause GeoMapApp to run out of memory.
- In Bathymetry, Gravity and Magnetic Profiles: When using the "Download Data" button make sure NOT to change the name of the files in the "Save As" window that pops up. The files need to have the same name as the files on the remote site where the data is located.
Other Changes
Database Menu
Bathymetry, Gravity and Magnetic Profiles
- Modified to load control files from new locations: user-created control files in the local directory "mgg_control_files" and the new control files in the remote directory MGG. Also modified to completely clear tracks when "Close" button is clicked to account for the large size of the new control files.
- In Bathymetry, Magnetics and Gravity the data for the selected leg is now loaded from an MGD77 data file located in the new MGG data folders.
- In Bathymetry, Gravity and Magnetic Profiles added button to the right side called "Import Leg from MGD77 File" and added radio buttons. The "Import" button provides functionality to create mgg control files from MGD77 data files. Creating an mgg control file with this button will immediately load the selected legs into the list and onto the map. This creates a directory in the default user directory called "mgg_control_files". NOTE: The legs will only be added to the new control file if they have data in their Bathymetry Corrected Depth, Free Air Anomaly or Magnetics Residual Field columns.
- The radio buttons switch between various already-created control files. Any user control files will always remain loaded (so long as they are located in the proper directory, which is mgg_control_files in the default user directory).
- The "load" button has been renamed "View Profile", and double-clicking on a leg in the list is equivalent to clicking on the "View Profile" button.
- Added "Download Data" button below the "View Profile" button which allows the user to download the MGD77 data files for the currently selected leg(s). Multiple cruises can now be selected for downloading using the "Download Data" button.
Help Menu
Show Help
- Fixed the help page URL; now accesses current help pages.
Toolbar
Grid Button
- Added "Pixels" to indicate what "Width" and "Height" refer to when in "3D view".
Layers Button
- For the "Import Grid" option from the "Layers" buttons, imported files are now imported correctly (previously were named based on the directory the original file was in, now named based on the original file itself).

Main Menu Changes
-The Under Development menu has been discarded and Drilling DSDP is now under the Database menu.
-Import Data has been moved from the Database menu to the File menu.
-Other Data has been added to the Database menu and is now the portal to the global datasets.
-Preferences has been moved from the View menu to the File menu.
-A Save As option has been added to the File menu which operates in exactly the same way as the save button.
-The View menu now has a Grids menu which allows you to choose one of the three main grids. Choosing an option will load the corresponding grid and display the grid dialog.
-The Help menu has been moved to the left to be next to the other menus.
Main Tool Bar Changes
-The Save button has been moved to the left.
-The Profile button now loads a grid when selected since this is necessary for its proper operation. Deselecting the Profile button disposes the grid unless the Grid Dialog window is open. In addition the Profile window now has radio buttons that allow switching between Great Circle and Straight Line instead of a drop down menu.
-The Grid Dialog button now loads a grid when selected and disposes the grid when deselected. The Grid Dialog window has been changed from a JDialog to a JFrame, making it minimizable. The Reload button is simply the Load button renamed. The drop down menu containing the grid types now loads whichever grid is selected automatically. The Contour button in the Grid Dialog Window can
now be accessed even if the interval in the text field is not changed. The Contour window now obtains reasonable values for min, max and interval. The redundant and non-functional no option has been removed from the Contour window. Closing the Grid Dialog window now disposes the grid and gets rid of any contour lines.
Main Map Changes
-Correct units (i.e. meters/mgal) now displayed according to which grid is loaded. Moving the cursor over the map no longer refocuses on the main app window. Specific Database Menu Changes
-Import Data is now in the file menu and browse databases can no longer be accessed from Import Data.
-Other Data has been added to the Database menu and automatically brings up the selection window for the global datasets when selected. The import options cannot be accessed through Other Data.
-Single Channel Seismic now has a scroll pane on the right side of the main window containing all the tracks in alphabetical order. Clicking on a track in the scroll pane will highlight it on the map. Double-clicking will display the profile in the window at the bottom of the main window. The "Load Already Digitized ..." dialog window no longer appears when the View Profile button is clicked. Instead there is a new Load Already Digitized button that performs the same actions as clicking yes in the Load Already Digitized dialog window. The Load Already Digitized button will display the profile of the selected track no matter what options are selected. Double-clicking on a track on the main map now displays the profile of that track. Zoom buttons have been added to the toolbar for the profile window on the bottom left of the main window.
-The Color Scale tool and Symbol Scale tool are now both JFrames, making them minimizable. In addition, they display the data type
bieng colored/scaled and the database they belong to in their title. Tabs have been added to the tab pane at the bottom of the main window indicating which data type is coloerd and which is scaled. The Color Scale tool now defaults to normalized.
Other Changes
-I think that it was in Underway MG&G that the circle on the map that indicates the location of the part of the track your cursor is over was made thicker to be more visible. It might have been in Single Channel Seismic. Sorry for the confusion, if you can find it see if you want the circle thicker or larger. Unfortunately the color cannot be made uniform as the circle is displayed using an XORing of the pixels with the map, meaning that having a solid color would make the map pixels unrecoverable unless the map were repainted, which causes many problems. |

"Import Data" has been added to the "Database" menu.
This interface was developed primarily by Justin Coplan, whom I acknowledge with deep thanks.
"Import Data" allows users to load geographically-keyed data from a file or URL in several formats and:
- plot locations on a map as points or a track
- scale and color symbols based on the value for a column
- view X-Y graphs of one column vs another.
