Load and Manipulate Digital Elevation Data
The Load Grid tool bar button toggles a dialog through which a digital elevation model (DEM) or grid for the current view may be loaded into GeoMapApp. Loading the DEM for your map view loads the actual depth values for each pixel in your map view so that you can modify the colors of the map display or contour the map.
Press the Load Grid button. The Grid Options window appears.
Select a Data Type from the pulldown menu under Topography. In a few seconds, the grid for the data type you have selected will load.
Once loaded, the map may be custom colored using the Palette Tool functions. A perspective view may be created using the 3D View option.
Here is an example of how the map view looks before and after loading the grid and customizing the coloring using the Palette Tool .
Without recoloring:
Recoloring permits you to adjust the color bar to only the range of data vlaues in your map view:
If 3D View is selected from the Grid Options toolbar, the dialog displays tools for composing a 3D perspective view of the data shown in the current map window.
Also be sure to click the Close button on the Grid Options Window toolbar to release the memory used for the grid.
