Multibeam Bathymetry Swaths
Multibeam bathymetry consists of echo-soundings from a wide swath beneath the ship.
A tutorial movie (requires Flash) is available on this topic.
Select Multibeam Bathymetry Swaths from the Available Data menu:

You may also Open Searchable List and enter a search term such as multibeam:
Press OK at the bottom of the window.
The window shown below opens:

Checking the View All Expeditions check box displays the tracks of expeditions that acquired multibeam swath bathymetry which has been incorporated into GeoMapApp's high-resolution bathymetry tiles.
Selecting a track highlights it in white and lists the name of the cruise in the text box. The cruise name is also highlighted on the pulldown menu bar.

Clicking the cruise name also activates a pulldown menu showing a scrollable list of all cruises worldwide with multibeam data. Clicking any name turns its track white. The user can then zoom in on the area containing the track and view the high resolution multibeam swath data along the ship's track.
Clicking on the Cruise Info - Download ping files button opens a browser window showing information about the selected dataset in Data Link of the Marine Geoscience Data System. Using this database, users can find metadata and download various files to the local file system. In this way users can retrieve multibeam data for further study and processing in their own computing environment. This functionality is primarily for users with experience in handling binary data in the various multibeam formats.
Be sure to press the close button when finished in order to release memory in your local computer and keep GeoMapApp responsive.
