Using the View Menu

The purpose of the View Menu is to allow the user to easily change the content of the Main Map Window. The basic data grid can be changed and recolored. The basemap can be changed. The map scales and color scales can be added or removed. Data source icons and an inset map can be shown or hidden. The automatic focus function can be turned off and on.

Grids

The Grids entry offers the user the choice of loading the default MGDS Global Multi-Resolution Topography (GMRT) or several other topography, gravity and geoid digital elevation models (DEM) as the world basemap to be used in the Main Map Window.

Clicking on any of the grid choices loads the requested grid and brings up the Grid Options window. This window includes the Palette Tool (for recoloring, adding contours and more) and the 3D View creation tool, where a three-dimensional image can be created.

Base Map

The Base Map selection offers the user the choice between the standard GeoMapApp global multi-resolution tileset

(GMRT) and the NASA Worldwind Blue Marble, based on a famous photograph taken by Apollo 17 astronauts.

Color Scale

The Color Scale option allows a color scale barto be added or removed from the image in the Main Map Window by clicking the check box. The scale color bar changes to reflect the display of other DEMs or your use of a custom color palette. Note: The color scale does not change to reflect use of the Blue Marble basemap.

Map Scale

The Map Scale check box adds or removes a simple scale of distance in kilometers in the Main Map Window.

Map Inset - a location map and more

The Map Inset checkbox works similarly, allowing the world location map inset to be viewed or hidden. The inset can be moved to another place in the window by dragging it with the mouse. Moving around the map: To change the location viewed in the Main Map Window, you can drag the red inner box.

Auto Focus

GeoMapApp automatically focuses the map as the user zooms and pans. To turn off this function, click the check box to un-check it.

Data Sources

In the default view, the Elevation Data Sources are shown as country flag icons at the bottom of the window. These can be hidden by unchecking the box.

Clicking the Information button opens the Elevation Data Sources window which gives detailed information about the data upon which the image in the Main Map Window is based.

When a cruise is selected and the Show Location button is pressed, a cruisetrack location box is shown in the Main Map Window. Pressing Zoom/Focus zooms the map to a closeup of the area highlighted.

Pressing any of the buttons grouped under Base Map and High Res Land will open a browser window with more information about the topic selected. If you have a browser window minimized, re-open it.
