PetDB Bedrock Chemistry
The Petrological Database of the Ocean Floor (PetDB) contains information and data tables concerning the chemical composition of rocks that have been dredged or cored from the ocean floor substrate.

Selecting PetDB Bedrock Chemistry from the Database menu opens the window above, with the Main Map Window in the upper left, a structure for choosing data types in the upper right, and an output table at the bottom.
Listed in the output table are all the sample sites shown in the Main Map Window.

The column widths can be expanded by dragging the column heading separator to show all the data listed.

Clicking on a row in the output table highlights the location of that sample on the map with a red square. Selecting any square on the map scrolls the table to the corresponding sample.
GeoMapApp also gives you the capability to search the Petrology database for samples that meet your particular criteria. For example, in the search illustrated below, Glass (GL) has been selected as the material of interest. The search has then been restricted to just the Major (MAJ) elements. The search is further limited to rocks of Basalt (V) composition.

The output table displays the results of the search. Only samples within the boundaries of the Main Map Window and samples that also match the search requirements are listed.

Any or all rows of the table can be copied and pasted into a text or spreadsheet application on the user's computer. In some applications, one might have to use the 'paste special' function.

The example below is a view from an Excel spreadsheet.

Remember, when you are finished with your PetDB activity, it is important to press the Close button to release memory within your computer and keep GeoMapApp responsive.
