Digitizer Tool Button
The Digitizer function lets the user craft an elevation profile (elevation in meters versus distance in kilometers) following any desired path on the world map.
Press the Digitizer
button. The Digitizer window opens as shown; it may take a few seconds to load the topography grid, especially if your internet connection is slow.
Then follow these steps.
FIRST: Select a region. You may scroll and zoom in the Main Map Window or use the zoom in tool to click and drag to select a region.
Whenever the cursor is moved in the Main Map Window, the longitude, latitude and elevation at the tip of the cursor arrow are displayed in the Main Tool Bar.
SECOND: In the Main Map Window, click on the Draw
icon.
When the Draw button is clicked, a symbol for the first digitization appears.

NEXT: Choose whether you are going to digitize individual points or a series of points to make a profile by choosing that button. This example is for the selection of a profile.

With the Draw icon selected, the cursor changes to a '+' . Make a series of points across the map by clicking the mouse as the cursor is moved along the desired trajectory. When you are finished selecting points, press 'enter' to end the line.

The longitudes, latitudes and elevation values of the digitized points appear in a scrollable text window.

You can copy from this window and paste into another application as shown below.

You must click on the make profile button which then creates many more points from the elevation grid and by interpolation using a spline function. Then select graph to display the profile in a scrollable window.

To see the whole profile, press the 'control' and 'shift' keys together on the keyboard and click within the graph window. A zoom out symbol
will appear as the cursor. One or more clicks will shrink the distance axis.

To expand the distance axis, hold down just the 'control' key to change the cursor to zoom in symbol
.
To modify the line you have drawn, first click on your line to highlight it, click the points radio button and then select the arrow
on the Main Window Toolbar.

Using the arrow
cursor, any point can be selected and then moved.

Clicking on the profile button after making edits will re-interpolate the new series of points. Clicking on the graph radio button will display the newly edited graph.
Another set of digitized points can be created by clicking the draw button
again.

The digitized lines can be turned on and off. Go to the side panel and click on the draw
button next to the Line Segs text for that particular line.

When the draw symbol adjacent to a set of line segments is clicked, the line disappears from the map. Clicking on the symbol again redisplays the line.
When finished, click the close button to release memory and keep the application responsive.
